Change the way you talk to yourself

Have you ever noticed the way you speak to yourself?

The words we tell ourselves can cause us to believe we are certain way if we continuously berate ourselves with negative language. Something that may seem quite normal, like calling yourself stupid, could negatively impact the way you think and feel about yourself.

If someone we worked with were to say some of the hurtful things we say to ourselves, it would be classed as bullying in the workplace. If our partner were to continuously say some of the words we use to describe ourselves, it could be potentially deemed as abuse.

We need to come to a realisation that these negative words we say to ourselves whether they are out loud or in our head, can be stopping us from ever really reaching our goals. If we constantly tell ourselves we are useless, or ‘I will never lose this weight, i will always be fat’ then there’s a strong chance you will. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. These things take time. The brain is a muscle too. If we don’t work it the right way, we will inevitably find our judgement is clouded and our decisions are poor. A clear and healthy mind will bring us much more joy and contentment in life.

Like any muscle that we have to train to get stronger, we have to do the same with the brain. We must train our brain to think differently. In doing so we will seek much better clarity in life, learn to love ourselves, and treat ourselves with the self respect that it deserves. But where do you start?

  1. Mediation

Now i know this is getting thrown about a lot, but the benefits of mediation greatly outweigh not doing it. Just taking 5 minutes every morning when you get up to take some time to yourself and clear your head ready for the day will make a difference.

My personal preference is to listen to some Happiness frequency music. While doing this I also say how grateful I am for the day and bless the day with love, happiness, joy, abundance, and whatever else you feel you need that day. This allows me to set my intentions for the day. If someone tries to cut me up on my drive to work then its fine because I won’t let it affect me as i have centred myself for the say. Try listening to this music while doing your mediation.

If you need more of a guided meditation head over the Calm App and it will get you off to a great start.

  1. Gratitude Journal

Do you ever express gratitude for the day? Expressing gratitude can be very cathartic. We realise how much we have actually done that day, and also all those who have helped to make that day good.

We can also use a gratitude journal to be grateful for the things we want to happen. If you want something really bad you have to think about it like you already have it. It could be that job promotion, a new house or just feeling fit and healthy. Be grateful for one day receiving it and it will come. Write down at least 5 to 10 things you are grateful for. I do this at the end of the day when I get into bed.

  1. Affirmations

These are becoming more and more popular. But did you realise that even the negative thoughts you put in your head are an affirmation? When we say I AM, make sure it finishes with something you want to be, not something that makes you feel worse about yourself. These are very similar to doing the gratitude journal and can be very powerful especially when said out loud. Do them first thing in the morning when you go to brush your teeth or last thing at night before you go to sleep. Saying them in front of a mirror can make them even more powerful.

If you really want to get everything out of life that you have been dreaming of you need to start living life like you already have it. Set an intention and work your arse of to go get it!
