Flexibility: I can’t do Pilates i’m not flexible enough

Flexibility: I can’t do Pilates i’m not flexible enough

“You are only as young as your spine is flexible” Joseph Pilates

We tend to think that to be able to partake in certain types of exercise we must already have certain things in place to do so.

When it comes to Pilates we may feel we need to be extra flexible to actually even do it.

One thing to remember is that Pilates is more than doing stretching

Yes, being more flexible may mean you could make certain movements, but that’s not what the main aim should be.

Firstly it’s about YOU making the first step to just even try it and see if you like it.

However I still want to put your mind at ease when it comes to being flexible for Pilates.

To do that I want to show you some of the exercises you might do in class that will help improve your flexibility.

Reformer Exercises to Improve Flexibility

Feet In Straps Sequence

Inner Thigh Sequence

Hip Flexor Hamstring Sequence

Mermaid Stretch

As you can see when it comes to flexibility you actually don’t need a great deal of it.

Yes we can always look to improve on it and it will help you in the long run in reducing pain, helping you move more freely, and becoming better at Pilates, but at the end of the day it’s not a reason to not try it.
